Study on Electrical Resistivity of Metakaolin Concrete

P.M. Kulkarni, V. B. Bhruglastav, S.A. Bhalchandra

Abstract

The present work studies the electrical resistivity of metakaolin concrete containing metakaolin at water–binder ratios 0.58, 0.55, 0.50 and 0.45. Cement was replaced with 0%–15% MK. The optimum replacement level was found 10%. Testing included measurement of electrical resistivity (ER), compressive strength and flexural strength (DT); rebound hammer; and ultrasonic pulse velocity test. ER increases with MK content, age and reduction in W/b ratio. The interrelation between ER and compressive strength and flexural strength was given by second-degree polynomial equations. Strengths of concrete can be predicted from the ER at early age from the equations formed avoiding the waiting of 28 days for destructive testing.
