Condition Monitoring of Rotating Machines—Part 2: Case Studies

D. B. Kulkarni

Abstract

The condition monitoring methods are discussed in the Part 1 of this paper series. After having discussed the condition monitoring process, two case studies are presented here. One case study is related to the vibrations developed in gear box in a small hydro power plant. The second case study is related to vibrations developed during commissioning in the bearing mounting housing of an alternator. The case studies involve the vibration measurement, analysis and using the diagnostic charts for fault finding as well as Finite Element Method for detailed analysis of components.
