Design and Analysis of Stochastic Processes for Predictive Maintenance in Industrial Engineering

Shweta Varshney

Abstract

Predictive maintenance is an appropriate maintenance method that involves making predictions about when equipment failure is likely to happen and carrying out maintenance in advance of that failure. Equipment failures can be modelled and researched using stochastic processes like the Poisson process and the Weibull distribution. With the use of these models, it is possible to compute important variables like the risk of failure and mean time between failures, which may then be utilised to manage equipment performance and direct maintenance decisions. Industrial engineers can raise equipment trustworthiness and minimize unscheduled downtime by employing stochastic modelling and predictive maintenance, which again will ultimately boost profits and productivity.
