POWDER MIXED EFFECTS OF DIELECTRIC MEDIUM'S IN ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE MACHINING
Abstract
The dielectric fluid has an impact on the work-piece surface quality and machining rate in electrical
discharge machining. The two primary purposes of the dielectric fluid are to flush gaseous and solid
waste from the spark gap and to keep the dielectric temperature constant. Using various powder
blended dielectrics can improve machining response characteristics including tool wear rate and
surface roughness. This study investigates the impact of powder addition on machining output metrics
and discharge properties. Further investigation was conducted on the conductivity, micro-hardness, and
electrode wear rate of several powder materials when combined with dielectric fluids (EWR). A
complete comparison of powder materials is examined in this study to better understand powder
selection variables for future studies.
