Computational Simulation of Continuous Centrifugal Machine using Computational Fluid Dynamics
Abstract
In this paper, the centrifugal machine which is used in a sugar industry has been analysed. The centrifugal machine is used for the separation of the molasses and the sugar crystals from the massecuite. The objective behind the analysis of the flow in the centrifuge is to achieve the reduction in the separation process time using the Computational Fluid Dynamics and to increase the tonnes/hour output of the sugar. The basic principle of the centrifugal machine is that it runs at almost 1500 rpm and the centrifugal action is executed which helps the separation process of the molasses and sugar crystals to take place. The software uses different models from the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) for the analysis. The analysis has been carried out in the STAR CCM+ software.
