The New Safer Nuclear Reactors Rekindle Trust in Nuclear Energy

Rathindra Nath Biswas

Abstract

New reactor design and technology hold the promise of the future of clean reliable energy. The nuclear reactors of tomorrow will offer a variety of benefits like desalination, process heat and alternate fuel generation and access to reliable clean power in remote areas beyond the power grid. These modern reactors like small modular reactors, advanced fission bed reactors are capable of operating without the need of safety-related backup electrical system. They come in a variety of sizes from a few megawatts to less than 1000 megawatts enabling the owners to tailor their requirement.
