Ergonomic Evaluation of Shipping Crane Cabin Comfort Used in Steel Industry through Operator’s Opinion

Abstract


An ergonomically deficient workplace causes low productivity, poor quality of work, emotional stress and work-related musculoskeletal disorder among the workers. Although research has been conducted on crane cabin design, hardly any information is known about the operator’s opinion on crane cabin. In this study, a questionnaire was completed by crane operators to get their aspect which need to be improved for better working comfort. The result shows that more than half operators rated crane cabin comfort as “average/poor”. According to operators, cabin comfort can be increased by improving sitting arrangement, adjustability of seat and controls, climate control and changing the cab design including dimensions, control panel size, ingress/egress, etc.
