An overview on Aluminium and Aluminum based Metal Matrix Composites

Pardeep Sharma

Abstract

Metal matrix composites are much far better than monolithic metals. Metal matrix composites possess higher specific modulus, better specific strength, better properties at elevated temperatures, better wear resistance and low coefficients of thermal expansion. Metal matrix composites have certain superior mechanical properties, like, greater compressive and shear strengths, higher transverse strength and stiffness and better high-temperature capabilities. So, this paper deals with an overview of Aluminium and describes the different views of researchers related to Al-based Metal Matrix Composites. Some current applications of composites include the tires, diesel piston, brake-shoes, and pads, etc.
