Research on Design, Static and Dynamic Analysis of FSAE Chassis

Abstract


The main objective of the research paper is design and analysis of a Formula student vehicles chassis. An approach for material selection for the chassis is provided which is followed by the designing of the chassis in the 3D CAD software Solidworks. Various static and dynamic analysis were carried out on the chassis in the CAE software Ansys Workbench. In a car, chassis is considered to be the backbone of any vehicle. The main supporting unit of a vehicle is chassis. A chassis needs to be designed such that it is as light as possible for best performance while not compromising on driver safety. The balance of the vehicle depends upon the mounting points of the various components to be mounted on the chassis. Therefore, these mounting mounts bust be positioned such that they do not hamper the balance of the vehicle. The designed chassis should have high torsional rigidity to avoid failure and must be strong enough to resist all the bending forces acting on it. This design and analysis comply all the rules and regulations stated by the FSAE in the FSAE Rulebook 2020.
