An Integrated Approach of AHP and TOPSIS for Optimum Selection of Renewable Energy Source

Monayem Parvej, Soupayan Mitra, Shankha Shubhra Goswami

Abstract

MCDM technique is a tool to take a decision among various criteria and sub criteria, which are often conflicting in manner. In many situations, like to select a product, process or strategy, it becomes quite complex to ascertain the best possible decision since the ‘decision’ may depend on a variety of factors having varying degree of importance and also, the deciding factors may have different degree of conflicts or, dependence among themselves. In the present investigation selection of best possible renewable energy source for power production is done considering different influencing factors having various degrees of preferences following AHP-TOPSIS Hybrid MCDM methodology. The factors considered are capital cost, energy generation magnitude, tariff cost, emission, efficiency, maintenance cost and land requirement. The validity of the obtained results is duly verified. The investigation, though considered with Indian data, can easily be applied for other countries as well.
