Development of Solar Cooker using Mirror as Reflector

Tandin Wangdi

Abstract

This research paper will present the development and testing analysis in the design of Solar Cooker. The research project is developed using solar energy in cooking system, which is renewable and supports in preserving much of the non-renewable natural resources. In order to meet the demands of global population, many of the natural resources such as fossil fuels and woods are used abundantly causing deforestation, erosion and depletion of non-renewable resources. Among the different energy end uses, energy for cooking is one of the basic and dominant end uses in developing countries. In an attempt to provide solution in terms of non-recurring expenses on fuel and other forms of energy in cooking, this project intends to develop a solar-based cooker for domestic purposes that is environment friendly and safe for users. In the design and development of the cooker, materials such as plain mirror, plain glass, thermolcol, glass cage, data logger and infrared thermometer are used with 2D and 3D representation. The outcome of this project is expected to support many local and rural communities in harnessing solar energy for cooking purpose with simple and realistic design.
