Review on Corrosion Properties and its types

Shweta Varshney

Abstract

The degradation of materials caused by chemical contact with their surroundings is known as corrosion. Although corrosion typically refers to metals, it is occasionally used to describe the deterioration of plastics, concrete, and wood. The following discussion is primarily focused on the corrosion of iron, which is the most often used metal (typically in the form of steel).Metal goods' reliability can be substantially impacted by corrosion. The desire for simple application and low cost has made coating application the most popular method of corrosion protection. Solvent coatings make up the majority of the corrosion-resistant coatings used today. The use of solvent coatings is prohibited due to the large quantity of volatile organic chemicals. Research and development of aqueous corrosion-resistant coatings are important and beneficial since the corrosion resistance of waterborne coatings is now substantially lower than that of solvent coatings. Thermal gravimetric analysis, transmission electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra were used to produce and evaluate a corrosion-resistant waterborne polyurethane modified epoxy (WPUME) emulsion.
