Erosion Behavior of Marble Dust Filled Jute Fiber Reinforced Composite

Pinku Kumar, Vikas Nandal, Amit Gupta

Abstract

Composites are materials comprising of at least two synthetically unmistakable constituents on a large scale having a particular interface isolating them and having mass conduct which is extensively not the same as any of the constituents. In current gage natural fiber is more delightful material because of its many advantages such as low density, nontoxic, nonabrasive, readily availability in nature and is cost-effectiveness. A lot of work has been done in this particular area all over the worlds over the use of natural fibers as reinforcement for preparing different varieties of composites but with pros comes cones as the natural fiber lags way behind compared to it’s counterparts such as glass fiber, carbon fiber, Kevlar etc in various mechanical attributed, to compensate for the same various amendments in the composites are being made and one being addition of filler material in the composite. The current work basically focuses on the addition of marble dust as filler material fabricating the composite using VARTM taking jute fiber as reinforcement and testing it’s response towards the simulated environment of air jet and slurry jet erosion using taguchi design of experiments. The response of the eroding surface with respect to the impinging angle was also recorded because it gave us an important characteristic of the material which is ductile, brittle or semi ductile or brittle, based on the maximum erosion rate recorded at a particular angle. Finally, the morphology of eroded surfaces would be examined using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).
