Abstract

The objective of this paper is to analyze and optimize the support structure of the motor assembly in window air conditioner using various materials. Mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum (high-strength alloy) materials are considered for support structure during analysis. The support structure is analyzed in both static and dynamic states using Autodesk fusion 360. The support structure bears the weight of motor assembly with centrifugal and axial flow fan attached in it. Centrifugal forces are created due to rotation is also considered for calculation of loads before analysis. The results of the analysis show the safety factor, von Misses stress and displacements among the three different materials. The outcome of the research is to select the better material for the support structure with maximum strength for the given loads and constraints.
