Abstract

This paper presents a single-phase bidirectional ac-dc converter for electrical vehicle charger. The converter is operating in both rectifier and inverter mode depending upon the operation of switches. The bidirectional power flow in rectifier or inverter mode can be achieved by controlling the AC line voltage with PWM technique. For achieving bidirectional flow of power a unipolar or bipolar pulse width modulation (PWM) technique may be applied at ac side for current waveform and dc side for voltage regulation. Unipolar PWM technique is chosen for controlling the converter in electrical vehicles charging system.
