Abstract

First-time robots were used medically in 1985. After this, robots make a powerful impact in various medical disciplines like medical imaging laparoscopy, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, emergency response, etc. Nowadays, robots are also used in several fields of surgery, including neurologic, orthopedic, abdominal, urological, ear–nose–throat (ENT), pediatric and fetal surgery. Fundamentally, the most important purpose of a surgical robot is to achieve minimally invasive surgical treatments. In the paper, we will review basic requirements of medical robotics and its application in medical imaging.
