Abstract

This paper presents for the first time the dynamic response analysis of an isotropic thin rectangular plate resting on two-parameter elastic foundation using a new hybrid method. The governing system of partial differential equation is simplified into an ordinary differential equation using Galerkin method of separation. The ordinary differential equation is solved analytically using the hybrid method Laplace-Homotopy Perturbation Method (LHPM). The analytical solutions obtained are compared with those in existing literature and excellent agreements are reached. The analytical solutions obtained are used for the investigation of change in elastic foundation parameters, aspect ratio and resulting effect of submerging the plate in fluid. It is observed that, an augmentation in elastic foundation parameter and aspect ratio increase the natural frequency of the thin plate while submerging the plate in fluid lowers its natural frequency. It is expected that the present study will go a long way to help in the design, vibration stability and optimization of isotropic plates for various applications.
