The thermal characterization of hybrid metal matrix composites has been increasingly important in a wide range of applications. The coefficient of thermal expansion and thermal conductivity are regarded as the most important properties of Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) based on thermal behaviour. Since nearly all Metal Matrix Composites are used in various temperature ranges, measurement of Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) and thermal conductivity as a function of temperature is necessary in order to know the behaviour of the material. In this research paper, the evaluation of thermal expansivity and thermal conductivity have been accomplished for Al 6061, Silicon Carbide and Graphite hybrid metal matrix composites from room temperature to 300°C. Aluminium based composites reinforced with Silicon Carbide and Graphite particles have been prepared by stir casting technique. The thermal expansivity and thermal conductivity of hybrid composites with different percentage compositions of reinforcements has been investigated. The results have indicated that, the thermal expansivity of the different compositions of hybrid MMCs decreases by the addition of Graphite with Silicon Carbide and Al 6061. Few empirical models have been validated for the evaluation of thermal expansivity and thermal conductivity of composites. Using the experimental values namely modulus of elasticity, Poisson ratio and thermal expansivity, computational investigation has been carried out to evaluate the thermal parameters namely thermal displacement, thermal strain and thermal stress. The thermal conductivity of hybrid composites with different percentage compositions of reinforcements has been investigated using laser flash technique. The results have indicated that the thermal conductivity of the different compositions of hybrid metal matrix composites decreases by the addition of Graphite with Silicon Carbide and Al 6061. Using the experimental values viz., density, thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity and enthalpy at varying temperature ranges, computational investigation has been carried out to evaluate thermal gradient and thermal flux.2019-03-10T21:45:51-07:00http://mechanical.journalspub.info/index.php?journal=JTEA&page=article&op=view&path%5B%5D=813A Review on Investigation of Perlite Based on Its Mechanical and Thermal Properties2019-05-22T21:32:41-07:00Mohammed Shajjath Pshajjath.p.neccivil2013@gmail.comAnuja N.shajjath.p.neccivil2013@gmail.comThis paper deals with a review on investigation of perlite based on its mechanical strength and its thermal property. The investigation shows that the perlite has the property of lightweight due to its porous nature and can be partially replaced with sand since it contains SiO2 content to a great extent. Due to its porous nature, the researchers say that the perlite in concrete induces thermal insulation property for which the increase in the perlite content decreases the thermal conductivity. But with increase in perlite content, there is a subsequent decrease in the mechanical strength of concrete. This paper consolidates different testing carried out to determine the performance of perlite in concrete in terms of strength and thermal properties2019-05-22T02:29:26-07:00http://mechanical.journalspub.info/index.php?journal=JTEA&page=article&op=view&path%5B%5D=798CFD Applied to Fluid Flow Due to Motion of Lid Inside a Cavity2019-05-22T04:16:50-07:00Venkatshivasaivivek Attalurivivekattaluri3@gmail.comParth N. Patelvivekattaluri3@gmail.comA complete analysis of a lid-driven cavity is done using finite difference method of computational fluid dynamics. This analysis is applied to the transient Navier–Stokes equations in two dimensions as well as continuity equations in two dimensions. The results obtained from the present analysis give information on behavior of fluid at different values of the Reynolds number.2019-05-22T02:50:54-07:00http://mechanical.journalspub.info/index.php?journal=JTEA&page=article&op=view&path%5B%5D=836Analysis of Micropolar Fluid Flow Through a Porous Channel Driven by Suction/Injection with High Mass Transfer2019-05-22T04:16:50-07:00Gbeminiyi Musibau Sobamowomikegbeminiyiprof@yahoo.comA. T. Akinshilomikegbeminiyiprof@yahoo.comL. O. Jayesimimikegbeminiyiprof@yahoo.comIn this paper, the flow of a micropolar fluid conveyed through a porous channel driven by suction or injection with a high mass transfer is analyzed using the regular perturbation method to solve the coupled nonlinear ordinary equations arising from the mechanics of fluid. The developed analytical solutions are used to investigate the effects of flow and rotation parameters such as Reynolds number and microrotation parameters. The obtained analytical results, when compared to the results of the other methods in the existing works in literature, are in good agreement. The results obtained from this paper can be used to further the study of the behavior of micropolar fluids in applications including as lubricants, blood flow, porous media, microchannels and flow in capillaries.2019-05-22T03:13:37-07:00http://mechanical.journalspub.info/index.php?journal=JTEA&page=article&op=view&path%5B%5D=847Thermal Radiation, Melting, and Dispersion Effects on Mixed Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Fluid Flow Through a Vertical Plate Embedded in a Non-Darcy Porous Medium2019-05-22T04:16:50-07:00Gbeminiyi Musibau Sobamowomikegbeminiyiprof@yahoo.comA. T. Akinshilomikegbeminiyiprof@yahoo.comL. O. Jayesimimikegbeminiyiprof@yahoo.comThis paper examines the mixed convective heat transfer effect on a non-Darcy porous fluid flowing through a vertical plate considering the concentration and effect of melt on flow and heat transfer. The mathematical models describing the transport phenomena arising from mechanics of the fluid are developed and then analyzed using the homotopy perturbation method. The results of the approximate analytical solutions in this present study are verified with the results of the past works as established in the literature. Thereafter, the developed approximate analytical solutions are used to investigate the effect of rheological parameters such as melting, thermal radiation, and dispersion parameters. From the results, it is established that as the melting parameter increases, the temperature distribution toward center plate increases significantly, while the concentration distribution, it increases toward the upper plate as the melt parameter increases. Also, it was observed that an increase in the R parameter causes a corresponding decrease in velocity distribution. Increasing thermal dispersion parameter (D) decreases temperature distribution. The present study will be useful as it provides useful insight to applications including fossil fuel combustion, astrophysical flows, and geothermal systems amongst others.2019-05-22T03:35:01-07:00
