Experimental Analysis of High Temperature Oxidation of Carbon Steel with the X-Ray Diffraction

Abstract


All the steel samples suffered oxidation attack in the air which resulted in intense spalling of the oxide scale. It is also observed that the high temperature oxidation rate is maximum for cast samples and is minimum for the rolled steel samples and for forged steel samples it lies between that of cast and rolled steel. The work includes high temperature oxidation study in the presence of air environment. Oxidation kinetics has been studied by thermogravimetric methods by measuring the weight change measurements and protection/degradation behavior and mechanism by the characterization of scale using X-ray diffraction. To finding out the different phase that formed in the oxide layers, X-ray diffractometer has been used.
