Design and Modelling of Roller Chain Drive and Sprocket

Deepak Singh

Abstract

A model of roller chain drive is developed, in which design parameter of roller chain is calculated. Along with this, modal analysis of roller chain drive is performed. Model of chain drive is designed with two sprockets and a chain; sprockets have the real tooth profile.
Finite element-based modal analysis is performed using modal analysis tool in Ansys Workbench. A three-dimensional (3D) model of chain drive system is prepared for the modal analysis. Both the spans are equally tightened. Modal analysis is performed to know the natural frequency of roller chain drive system, so that the resonance in the system can be avoided.
