Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed housekeeping staff, doctors and caregivers in hospitals to a high risk bio hazard in the form of the Corona virus. The probability of infection and inherent health risk to humans can be reduced if robots are used in housekeeping services instead of manual labor. This paper details the design and development of Hospital Robot (HO-BOT) which works in both manual as well as automatic mode. This robot will be helpful for housekeeping purposes as it boasts of features like sanitized cleaning and also assists delivery of essentials like food and medicines to the infected patients. Models currently available in market are having large dimensions, lower ground clearance and are distinctly expensive. The robot prototype designed in the present study has a compact streamlined structure which helps it manoeuvre in hard to reach areas below beds, tables and equipment. It has high ground clearance which helps it to collect trash and waste without getting jammed.
