Design and Development of Vacuum Clamping Device for Nirlep Appliances Pvt. Ltd.

Abstract


Nirlep Appliances Pvt. Ltd. Presently uses a three jaw holding device to hold pan, cooker etc. for various operations like heat treatment, painting, internal and external coating etc. When these operations are going on, problems such as improper coloring, vibrations, time for adjusting fixtures, etc. arises. Because of the three jaw holding device, the utensil does not fit symmetrically on device sometimes and the coloring or coating operation is not properly done i.e. patches are visible on the surface. Sometimes, the utensil even falls down between different operations. This not only increases the time consumed in fixing the utensil again but also stops the production line, thereby affecting the production rate. Three jaw chuck requires proper alignment of the object as well, which is a tiring and time consuming activity for the operator. As assembly line is elliptical in shape, if such problems occur, it is difficult to overcome them. This affects the quality of the product, production rate and ultimately the economics for the industry. To overcome these problems, a vacuum clamping device has been designed in present study. The objective is to hold the utensil by the force of vacuum created with the help of a vacuum cup.
