To Enhance Wear Resistance of Cast Iron Using Thermal Spray Coating Techniques

Yatan Nagpal

Abstract

In the present research work, an experimental study is being carried out to evaluate and enhance wear resistance of cast iron using thermal spray coating techniques. For this work, coating materials used were WC–Co–Cr and Ni–Cr in powdered form, and the coating was done by D-gun (detonation-gun) method. Wear behavior was investigated using pin-on disc apparatus at 30,40 and 50N on both coated and uncoated samples of cast iron, and a comparative study was carried out between two coatings. The results revealed that, on increasing the load, wear rate increases; the wear resistance is increased on coated cast iron specimen and WC–Co–Cr coating showed better results as compared to Ni–Cr coating.
