High Temperature Oxidation/Corrosion Study of Cast and Wrought Steel: Literature Review

Cast, rolled and forged plain carbon steel samples of varying carbon content were exposed to cyclic oxidation in air for 50 cycles each cycle consisting of 1 hour heating at 900°C and 20 minutes cooling in ambient air. Oxidation kinetics was established by thermo-gravimetric methods by measuring the weight changes at the end of each cycle. The oxidized samples with oxide scaled surface were investigated using X-ray analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and EDAX.
