Some Studies on Dynamics of Roller Chain Drive

Deepak Singh

In this paper, a mathematical model of roller chain drive is developed to calculate the static and dynamic load distribution and dynamic response of two sprockets with 10 and 20 no. of teeth with a chain of 40 roller. Static load distribution is carried out by Troedsson approach, two spans of chain tight and slack are considered. Friction force and elastic deformation of chain drive is neglected but the gravitational force is included. Dynamic load distribution of chain model is also carried out for one rotation of chain drive. A multibody dynamics software Adams is used for dynamic analysis. It is assumed that both the spans are equally tightened. Gravitational force, friction and elastic deformation are included in this model. Angular velocity and angular acceleration of sprockets are also calculated for one rotation of chain.
